WeChat Pay

Download WeChat from your home store. Open Weixin Pay inside it: Me → Pay and Services → Wallet. A +86 number is not required if SMS works.

WeChat is the international-number app. Weixin is the +86 app. They are not the same download.

Add a card. You may be asked to upload a passport. Everyday mainland purchases work. Red packets and transfers do not, with an international card only.

Official Help limits: single RMB 6,500, monthly 50,000, yearly 65,000; fee language waived under 200 / 3% above. The in-app page wins.

A 2026 Tencent campaign waived the 3% fee for 90 days from the first transaction, up to RMB 1,000/day, for first-time international-card users. Do not treat that as permanent.
